About That Chrome OS Event

We’ve been report­ing a lot about Chrome OS the past few days. Pos­si­ble fea­tures, screen­shots, early builds — lots of good stuff. And tomor­row was promis­ing to bring even more as yes, there’s an event par­tially deal­ing with Chrome OS sched­uled to take place on Google’s Moun­tain View cam­pus. But sadly, we’ve been banned from the event.

Truth be told, all press is now banned from the event, we were told this evening. And that sucks because just yes­ter­day we were con­firmed as atten­dees and had planned to report on what we saw and heard. But then PC World and The Next Web spilled the beans on the event, and Google decided to ban the press.

How­ever, before they banned us and closed down reg­is­tra­tions, we did man­age to get the con­fir­ma­tion email about the event.

AT&T Green­lights VoIP For the iPhone. Too Bad Google Voice Isn’t VoIP

Yes­ter­day, we saw a Von­age app hit the App Store, which seemed to go against Apple and AT&T’s pre­vi­ous stance that VoIP apps that work over the 3G (and 2G) net­work would not be allowed in the App Store. Turns out there’s been a pol­icy change. AT&T has just announced that it will no longer restrict VoIP apps that use its net­work on the iPhone, a move which is long over­due con­sid­er­ing that it was already allow­ing these on other phones. []

Apple Isn’t Even Both­er­ing To Lie Anymore

I mean, seriously.

Apple’s chief com­plaint against the Google Voice appli­ca­tion was “The appli­ca­tion has not been approved because, as sub­mit­ted for review, it appears to alter the iPhone’s dis­tinc­tive user expe­ri­ence by replac­ing the iPhone’s core mobile tele­phone func­tion­al­ity and Apple user inter­face with its own user inter­face for tele­phone calls…” []
