DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — County officials have suspended two police officers after the Secret Service notified them that the officers ran a background check on President Barack Obama.
According to county spokeswoman Sheila Edwards, Officer Ryan White and Officer C.M. Route were placed on paid administrative pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs investigation. Each has been with the department for about two years.
That investigation was prompted after the Secret Service contacted the county telling them that someone had accessed two police databases on July 20 around 4:40 a.m. to perform a background check on the president.
Edwards said that the Secret Service is leaving the investigation up to the county. [ … ]
